Sharp GP2Y0A51SK0F Analog Distance Sensor, 2cm to 15cm
Sharp's GP2Y0A51SK0F analog distance sensor has the shortest detection range of any sensor in its category, with a sensing range from 2 cm to 15 cm (0.8" to 6").
The shorter range allows for higher-resolution measurements, and the low minimum sensing distance makes this sensor an excellent tool for detecting objects very close by.
Distance is indicated by an analog voltage, making this sensor very easy to use.
This IR sensor offers markedly better performance than other IR alternatives.
Interfacing with most microcontrollers is straightforward: the single analog output can be connected to an analog-to-digital converter for distance measurements, or the output can be connected to a comparator for threshold detection — this option makes the threshold adjustable for digital Sharp sensors. This version's sensing range is roughly 2 cm to 15 cm (0.8" to 6").
The GP2Y0A51 uses a 3-pin, 1.5mm-pitch JST ZH connector that works with our 3-pin JST ZH cable (not included with the sensor package).

Usage tips
This sensor draws large amounts of current in short bursts, and the manufacturer recommends placing a 10 uF or larger capacitor between the power supply and ground, as close as possible to the sensor, in order to stabilize the power line.
