Light Sensor — Photoresistor Module

Modulo sensore di luminosità a fotoresistenza

What the 6495 light sensor module is for, how it works, and how it's built.

A light sensor gives our robot the ability to detect the presence of light, whatever its source — artificial or natural.

Depending on whether or not light is present, our robot could, for example, turn LEDs on or off, or enter a power-saving mode if equipped with solar panels, and so on…

How it works

A photoresistor (or LDR) is an electronic component whose resistance is inversely proportional to the amount of light hitting it.

It behaves like a traditional resistor, but its value in Ohms decreases as the intensity of the light hitting it increases.

This means that the electric current flowing through this component is proportional to the intensity of a light source.

By feeding these electrical signals to a microcontroller, they can be converted into numeric values, which can then be used to automatically trigger commands on the object or objects connected to the microcontroller — such as one or more robots.

How it's built

This handy light sensor module includes:

  • A photoresistor,

The light sensor module has 4 Dupont-style connection pins (VCC, GND, V0, A0):

  1. VCC: 3.3V ~ 5V power supply,
  2. GND: collegamento a Ground,
  3. V0: segnale uscita Digitale,
  4. A0: segnale uscita Analogica.
